Carbonite Selects Diversified To Test New E2 Hybrid Backup Appliance
Carbonite has selected Diversified Computer Solutions, Inc. to be a field tester for their new E2 Hybrid Backup Appliance! The E2 appliance targets small businesses with up to 1TB of business critical data and comes in two models, a 500GB capacity model and a 1TB capacity model. The E2 appliance physically resides at your office, serving as the "local" backup. At the same time, the E2 will also upload a copy of each local backup to an offsite, remote, secure server. Hence the phrase, "Hybrid Backup".
In our opinion, what makes the E2 appliance truly special, is how Carbonite will calculate storage costs for the E2. In traditional, Carbonite software-based remote backup solutions, Carbonite calculates cost based on the amount of total storage your data requires on the remote server each month. I.T. professionals know that 300GB of "protected data" could easily take up 800GB of total storage if you keep two full backups monthly backups (300+300) plus the associated 60 days of nightly changes (~100 to 200). The E2 uses a different pricing methodology. You purchase either a 500GB model or a 1TB model which protects up to that much of original data files. You then get a full backup plus one year's worth of nightly backups for the same base price regardless of how much total space is actually used on the remote storage server!
We're excited to have been selected to test one of these new E2 hybrid backup appliances. The E2 appliance will be used on our own network so that we get day-to-day exposure to the device. We will provide Carbonite's E2 Product Team with valuable feedback starting with the unboxing and setup all the way through the backup and restore process.
The E2 will target smaller businesses that previously could not afford the traditional backup appliances. From what we have seen so far, the E2 is a much better backup appliance than Carbonites original device which we also tested.
We believe that the E2 hybrid backup appliance represents a big step forward for Carbonite as they take leverage their purchase of Evault and we are very excited to have this opportunity to help. We expect to receive our E2 appliance next week.
